What we treat as urgent

A door that won't close leaves the house open. A door that won't open can trap the car you need. A door hanging or off track is dangerous. These go to the front of the line.

Garage door companies that take urgent calls carry common springs, cables, rollers and sensors, so many repairs are done in one visit.

Less pressing problems, such as noise or an intermittent remote, are handled quickly too, at a time that suits you.

First steps while you wait

Unplug the opener for the affected door. Keep kids and pets out of the garage. Don't lift or force a door with a broken spring or cable, and don't stand under a stuck door.

If the door won't close, lock the interior door, bring valuables inside and turn on outdoor lights. If you're leaving, let a neighbor know.

If a car is trapped and the springs look intact, the manual release might allow you to lift the door. If it feels very heavy, stop.

Hailstorms and ice storms

North Texas hail can arrive with little warning. Afterwards, check whether each door still runs straight, seals at the floor and responds to the opener. Photograph damage for insurance.

During rare ice storms, doors can freeze to the driveway. Don't let the opener fight a frozen door; free the seal gently first.

Outages and surges can knock out opener boards. A surge protector and battery backup are inexpensive safeguards.

After a collision

Backing into a door, or clipping it in a tight side-entry turn, usually damages the bottom panels and one track. The door may still move, but it's likely to come off track soon.

Stop using it, take photos and request the repair. If panels can't be replaced, the opening can be made safe until a new door is installed.

Ask for an itemized estimate if insurance is involved.

Upfront pricing, even when it's urgent

You'll hear about any after-hours or weekend fee when we call back, and the technician gives you the repair price before starting.

Most urgent problems come down to springs, cables, rollers, tracks or opener parts. Be cautious of anyone pushing a full replacement on an emergency call without showing you what failed.

If something feels off, tell us.

Which door, and what you saw

Many Frisco homes have two or three garage doors, so the first thing to tell us is which one is affected. Then describe what happened: a loud bang, a door that stopped partway, a crooked door, an opener that hums or blinks, or damage from a car or hail.

Photos help more than long descriptions. A picture of the spring above the affected door, the cables at its bottom corners and the opener's label lets the technician load the right springs and cables before leaving, which is often what makes a one-visit repair possible.

If a car is trapped behind the door, or a door won't close and the house is exposed, say so clearly. Those details decide how fast the visit is arranged.

Keeping the house secure overnight

If a repair can't be completed the same day, the technician's first job is to make the opening safe. That can mean securing the door in the closed position, disconnecting the opener so the door can't be triggered or blocking the tracks so a damaged door can't move.

Ask the technician to show you what was done and what not to touch until the return visit. If you have other doors, they can usually be used normally in the meantime.

For a door that has to stay open, keep the interior door to the garage locked and move anything valuable into the house.
