Quick diagnosis

Match the symptom to the likely cause

Bang from the garage + door won't lift

A torsion spring has broken. With a heavy Frisco door, the opener can't lift the weight on its own and will stop after a few inches. Unplug it and wait for a technician.

Door reverses or won't close

Safety sensors near the floor are blocked, misaligned or blinded by low sun, or the opener's close force needs adjusting. Check the little lights on each sensor.

One side lower, cable hanging

A lift cable has snapped or come off its drum. The door is now unevenly loaded and can fall or jam. Keep clear and don't run the opener.

Don't try to lift a door that has a broken spring or cable, and never adjust springs yourself. The forces involved cause serious injuries every year. Read the full list of warning signs →

03 — Big houses, big doors

Why Frisco garage doors wear differently

Frisco grew from a small railroad town into one of the fastest-growing cities in the country, mostly in the last twenty-five years. Its subdivisions are known for large homes, and large homes come with large garages: three-car layouts, a double door paired with a single, side-entry garages that turn off the driveway, and upgraded doors in wood-look steel, composite or real wood.

Heavier doors need stronger springs and openers with enough power. When the builder installed a mid-grade spring on a heavy insulated door, or a homeowner later added windows and decorative hardware without upsizing the springs, the system wears out early. Many of the repair calls in Frisco start with a spring that was never quite right for the door.

Side-entry and three-car garages also mean more doors per house. When springs on one door break, the springs on the others, installed at the same time, are often not far behind.

04 — North Texas weather

Hail, heat and the occasional ice storm

The Dallas–Fort Worth area sees more hail than most of the country, and Collin and Denton counties are no exception. Big hail can dent steel panels deeply, crack wood and composite doors and break window inserts. If the dents are near hinges or along section joints, the door can start to bind or stop sealing properly.

Summer heat is the slow stressor. Garages that face west or south get hot enough to dry out the grease in opener gears and on rollers, and to harden weather seals until they crack. Openers that spend years in a hot attic-like space tend to fail at the gear first.

Then there are the rare winter storms, like February 2021, when doors froze to the driveway and openers failed trying to lift them. Freeing a frozen seal gently, rather than letting the opener force it, saves both.

05 — Specialist, not salesperson

Repairs first, replacement only when it makes sense

Most garage door problems are mechanical: springs, cables, rollers, hinges, tracks and opener parts. All of them are designed to be replaced individually, and the door itself usually has many years left. A good technician fixes what failed and tells you what's worn, without turning a broken spring into a new-door sale.

Replacement is the right call when several panels are damaged by hail or a car, when a wood door has rotted, when a model is discontinued and panels can't be matched, or when you want an insulated door for a garage that's become a gym, an office or a workshop.

Either way, you should hear the options and the prices before any work begins, and you should be able to take time to decide.

Questions

Garage door repair in Frisco — your questions answered

We have three garage doors. Should all the springs be checked?

If they were installed at the same time and one has broken, it's worth having the others checked during the same visit. They've often done similar work and may be near the end of their life too.

Can a heavy carriage-style door be fixed the same day?

Usually, if the problem is springs, cables, rollers or the opener. Technicians carry common spring sizes; very heavy or unusual doors may need springs ordered.

Do you handle hail damage?

Yes. A technician can tell you whether dents affect how the door works, replace panels where possible and provide an itemized estimate for insurance.

How quickly can someone come to Frisco?

Often the same day or the next business day. Trapped cars and doors that won't close are prioritized.

Is there a charge for the visit?

Some companies charge a service fee that is credited toward the repair. You'll be told before the visit.

Who will come out?

An independent garage door company that works in Frisco and the surrounding cities. We arrange it and stay available if anything isn't right.
